Let's Talk About....Gloria

Gloria is bold but in a subtle way. She is a rose gold coloured jacket with rose gold coloured metal stud buttons, and I have paired her with pale orange, pale pink, and white blousy flowers. I have also used some gold lamé type fabric to add a bit of bling.

Gloria also has some top stitching embellishment with free motion embroidery, just to enhance the flower fabric. Free motion embroidery is a technique that is very useful. On your sewing machine you lower the teeth that guide the stitching forward, which then enables you to stitch in any direction.

I only have a small amount of the gold fabric, and it was passed on to me by my lovely SIL Miriam. She had the opportunity to visit a Scrapstore, where businesses donate unwanted ‘scraps’ mainly art and craft items, like paper, card and fabric, to be reused by organisations and the general public.

So I was handed a bag full of interesting fabrics, including this gold lamé, that has a floral pattern printed on one side, just waiting for the right project.

The blousy flower fabric was passed on to me by my lovely friend Sue, and she had had it passed on to her by her MIL. So it has come on quite a journey.

Pinned to the fabric was a small label saying exactly what it is...Remnant, 3 ½ yards, 36” (wide), Trevira (the brand name), Georgette (the fabric). The label must go back some time as it is not in metres and centimetres, but in yards and inches.

Trevira are a company that make polyester fabric. So we know it’s not silk but polyester.

Georgette fabric is closely related to chiffon, and is a lightweight, dull finished crêpe fabric, and is named after the early 20th Century French dressmaker Georgette de la Plante. As it is so lightweight it is often used in loose fitting clothes like blouses, dresses, and saris.

The Gloria is available for purchase now, find her here.
