Let's Talk About...Heather
Heather is full of russetty tones with shades of lilac and pale blue. But she also has a splash of yellow and pink highlights. Heather is a classic heavyweight denim blue jacket, with stud buttons and 2 breast pockets.

The yellow and pink fabric comes from a small, polished cotton curtain sample, that I acquired from a stitching group run by my lovely friend Jan, in the next village along from where we used to live in Somerset.
I was invited to join Jan’s stitching group back in 2014. She was encouraging anyone who could sew, to help make 2 banners for their new village hall, depicting village scenes. Although I knew how to sew, textile art was a new one for me, but very happy to give it a go.
To make textile art, you don’t need large quantities of fabric, but you do need a lot of different colours and textures of fabric, to give you the desired effect, so left overs and samples are perfect for the job.
So we all brought along pieces of fabric for anyone to use, and this piece ended up in my sewing basket. It got used on the banners, but I also used it on my 1st attempt picture, I made for myself, of my childhood home Beech Farm. I just wanted to practice the craft of making pictures with fabric, and I discovered I enjoyed the process immensely. I love the way the fabric does the talking, and you choose the colours and textures from all the many left-overs from other projects. So textile art became my new best thing.

For the last 8 years, I’ve been part of a textile art group called The Textile Set, based in Somerset and Dorset, and we exhibit at least once a year in our part of the country. So along with Hazy Made I’m very much immersed in the world of using and re-using my fabric for art and fashion.

Here we are over 10 years later, and as you can see I only have a tiny piece of this fabric left now, and it definitely adds a little something to Heather and all her earthy tones!
The Heather is available to buy now, find out more here.
