Let's Talk About..... Sukhi

Sukhi is unashamedly bold in colour and design, using a cotton curtain fabric, standing out on the black denim.

I acquired the fabric by just being in the right place at the right time. We were at our niece’s wedding in 2016 in a marquee on the banks of Thorpeness boating lake, Suffolk, on the east coast near Aldeburgh. The marquee needed ‘dressing’ and one of my SIL’s was working for an interior designers curtain shop. Also my SIL had been a set designer, so she was commissioned with the task of draping lots of fabric from the ceiling to the walls. She acquired unwanted bolts of fabric for the job. After the party was over it all needed to be taken down, so bundles of fabric came my way, including this wonderful design.

Thorpeness is an interesting village as it’s a fantasy village built for holidaying, back in the early 20th century, but made to look olde worlde. And it has a boating lake for rowing on. All very English. Funnily enough, my MIL was taken there for holidays in her childhood, so being given another chance to be rowed out around the islands, during quieter moments of the wedding celebration, she was very eager. So hubby and daughters got her into a rowing boat, and out again, without incident, no mean feat for a lady in her 90’s. I decided staying on dry land, taking photo’s and holding handbags was more my thing.
