Let's Talk About..... Zaynab
Zaynab is a long mid-green lightweight jacket, verging on a coat, just waiting to be zhuzhed up. So I have paired it with a big blousy pink floral design.

This fabric was passed on to me by my lovely friend Sue. Her hubby was helping his mum clear out the family home to move to somewhere smaller, and her fabric collection needed to be dispersed. She was a prolific home dressmaker and obviously enjoyed a lot of colour and design, judging by what was passed on to me. Not only was there left over fabric from previous projects, there were incomplete and cut out skirts and blouses waiting to be put together. Anyway, time had passed and pins holding them together were on the verge of going rusty.
There are 3 different types of fabric on Zaynab and the smallest design is a Liberty print called ‘Wiltshire’, printed on cotton lawn. Lawn cotton is a very fine tightly woven cotton thread, giving it a lightweight silky feel, ideal for summer clothes.

This particular piece of fabric came from my mother. I found it in a cupboard along with other interesting material, probably waiting for me to make it into a dress for her. My mother passed away 20 years ago, so this fabric is now in it’s 3rd decade and seems as good as new. She already had a skirt and blouse in this design in a lighter pink and blue colourway, so she must have been very fond of the pattern.
Liberty have been designing fabric for over a 100 years and have 50,000 designs in their archive collection. 100’s of them are still available today, including Wiltshire. You just can’t beat a classic.
